Introduction
Hello, my name is Dan Mitchell and I am a licensed psychologist in Central Vermont. In case you or someone you know are interested in getting EMDR Consultation, here is some information about my background.
Generally, I have been in practice as a therapist since 2002. I have a Master’s degree in school counseling and a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Northern Arizona University. I have experience in several settings including community mental health, hospitals, corrections, school based clinics, and the majority of my experience has been in a primary care setting where I currently practice.
I am an EMDRIA-approved consultant and I am also a volunteer faculty for for the EMDR Humanitarian Assistance (HAP) organization so I am also a HAP-approved consultant.
Some of the patient populations I am most interested in are those with medical issues, ACEs, and anxiety disorders including PTSD of course as well as phobias. One of the things I would consider a strength is my ability to help consultees develop target plans more effectively. I have found that effective target planning can decrease both the number of sessions need to reconcile trauma as well as with less undue suffering. Also, my supportive style of consultation allows consultees to really open up about their struggles with EMDR which can help the consultee grow in many ways. It is very important for consultees to feel comfortable enough to talk about their weaknesses and mistakes. THAT is how we learn. I have found my style to be especially effective with consultees who feel uncomfortable about doing phase 4 and beyond. I call this “difficulty with launching” after training.
I have two ongoing groups and I never have more than 8 consultees at a time given some of my consultees are on a certification track. I am accepting those interested in either group or individual. I have a nice mix of consultees right now, a few who are certified, and several who are at the very beginning of their EMDR journey.
Lastly, if you want to get a sense of my teaching style, I have a handful of videos on YouTube you are welcome to view on resourcing and grounding techniques.
